The National Genealogical Society (NGS) Family History Conference is returning to Richmond, Virginia, May 19-21, 2021. The theme for the conference is Virginia: The Deep Roots of the Nation. Richmond, Virginia is a popular venue and will be sure to attract many NGS members.
Call for Proposals for 2021 NGS Family History Conference
NGS has opened the call for proposals and will be accepting them until 1 April 2020. Conference tracks under consideration include the following:
- DNA
- government records
- heritage
- immigration, naturalization
- passenger records
- land
- maps
- migration, trails and events that affected patterns of settlement
- military
- organizing methods
- repositories
- Virginia and her neighbors
- the law as it relates to genealogy, methodology, analysis, problem-solving
- Methods that demonstrate: using reasonably exhaustive research; proper source citations; analysis and correlation; resolution of conflicts; and sound reasoning and coherent writing
The NGS 2021 Family History Conference will be the first conference after the merger of the Federations of Genealogical Societies (FGS) into the National Genealogical Society. Therefore the NGS 2021 call for proposals include the need for a full day of society management topics to be held on Tuesday, 18 May 2021. Topics under consideration include best practices, leadership, memberships, programs, publications, disaster plans and record preservation. NGS members receive first consideration as speakers. Notification of selected speakers will be announced in August 2020. For more details about speaking, please go to the website.
Proposals
Speakers who wish to submit lecture proposals may submit up to eight proposals electronically. The speaker compensation is described in detail on the NGS website.
