Finding Irish records can be confusing because of the many jurisdictions. Using maps to visualize the jurisdictions makes it easy to zero in on where to look for records.

This lecture will present a variety of maps and strategies on where and how to search. Loaded with examples, this talk is for anyone who is struggling to find records in Ireland. Even if you have not identified an Irish place of origin for your ancestor, this lecture will provide tools that may help in your future research.

In this session, we will:

• Work with place names and discover what they could be referring to
• Cover the differences between civil and church parishes and how to find the records created in them
• Look at maps created soon after the famine and then see what this area looks like today
• Try some surname mapping to see how localized surnames can help in your research
