Collaboration is one of the best research tools in our genealogical resources arsenal. When we’re stuck and don’t know what to do next, we can turn to our network of genealogical, archival, librarian, and other associates to bring a fresh perspective to our research.

This session explores the many ways we can collaborate and create a network that brings rigor to our research and ways to validate our approach. In this session, you will learn:

– How to leverage past research.

– How to expand the scope of your research to enrich your family narrative.

– A fresh perspective on resources you may not have yet tried, or perhaps dismissed.

– New ways to think about “community”.

– The roles that DNA, online trees, Facebook groups, communities, and other resources play in collaboration in the Twenty-first century.

When this session concludes, the undo pressure you may put on yourself trying to do “perfect” research all by yourself will hopefully dissipate into a broader vision of why collaborating with others may forever change the way you approach your research.

BIO: David E. Rencher, AG, CG, FUGA, FIGRS is the Director of the Family History Library in Salt Lake City and the Chief Genealogical Officer for FamilySearch. His many years of conference experience and working in the genealogical society arenas have given him a deep appreciation for collaboration with others throughout the world.
