Did you know deeds contain more than just land transactions? Find hidden gems for your family by using these records. Dana will first discuss how to find land records online and in repositories and some tips to be successful. Special focus will be on using the un-indexed FamilySearch catalog records. Many deed examples from Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Kentucky, Ohio, southwest Pennsylvania, and Vermont will be shown. Learn how to find prior residences using deed records; prove kinship by finding relationships in the records; and find women in land sales. In addition, attendees will also see examples of personal property sales; power of attorney records; and marriage entries. Come learn how to be successful finding “hidden gems” in deeds!

Bio:  Dana Palmer, CG®, CGL(SM) has been a genealogy instructor at Sinclair Community College since 2010. She has spoken at national, state, and local genealogy events including RootsTech, NGS, FGS, and frequently at OGS. Specializing in lineage society applications; publishing family books; and Midwestern research – specifically Ohio, she also has experience in Germany, Denmark, and the U.K. Dana has received numerous awards for her books and volunteer efforts.
