She is presenting three lectures at the conference. The first talks about the parish records of the Catholic church in Spain and Latin America, among the richest resources for Hispanic family history research. On Saturday, she discusses the Mexican civil registration system, which began in the 1860s, decades before civil registration was implemented in many US states. Finally, she combines parish records and civil records when she gives a country by country overview of records in various South American countries.
Gurtler is one of several speakers in the Hispanic and Latin Track. Topics in this track also include the fundamentals of Hispanic genealogy, the Spanish colonial regions that later became California, different types of marriage records, and more.
