Introducing Your NGS 2022 Conference Local Host Society
Founded in 1898, the California Genealogical Society (CGS) is honored to be the Local Host Society for the NGS 2022 Family History Conference in Sacramento May 24-28.
CGS members are gearing up to assist the NGS staff in planning and delivering the 2022 conference. Leading the charge as Chair of the Local Host Committee is Jane Lindsey, a former president of CGS and a 22-year member. Working with the conference organizers is current NGS president Kathryn Doyle, a long-time member of CGS, and Matt Berry, 2022 conference chair and current CGS Treasurer.
The CGS headquarters is in Oakland, where it maintains a growing library of more than 38,000 reference materials. After being closed at the height of the COVID epidemic, the library is once again open to the public three days a week (registration required).
CGS offers 3-5 online classes a month, which are open to everyone. Staffed completely by volunteers, CGS answers research queries from patrons across the country and publishes a free e-newsletter and blog. The California Nugget is a magazine published twice a year for members. During the Covid lockdown, volunteers stepped up to digitize and provide unique research materials online for the CGS membership.
More than 900 genealogy enthusiasts are members of CGS, including many who live outside the Bay Area. The members of CGS look forward to hosting you in Sacramento in May 2022. For more information on the society go to their website https://www.californiaancestors.org/
