Tools to Help with the 1950 Census….and More—Stephen P. Morse

There is much excitement about the release of the 1950 census on April 1^st this year.  Some of you may be old enough to find yourself on this census.  I have already found myself on the 1950 census living with my parents and grandparents in Highland Park, NJ and that was largely thanks to the tools on Stephen Morse’s One-Step Webpages at https://stevemorse.org/.  His tools for finding the right census Enumeration District (ED) saved me hours of time.

Steve has been helping genealogists for many years with his numerous free tools for calendar conversion, immigration record searches, Soundex, DNA, foreign alphabets, map coordinate conversions, and of course Census tools.  Steve will be giving two talks at NGS 2022 in Sacramento.  The first talk will be an update on his many Genealogical Tools to help with searching  on Friday at 2:30 and is entitled One-Step Webpages:  A Potpourri of Genealogical Search Tools .

Steve’s second talk will focus on the 1950 census and on how to find your ancestors and relatives before the census is fully indexed by name, by using his ED finding tools.  That talk will be on Saturday at 11 AM and is entitled Getting Ready for the 1950 Census: Searching With and Without a Name Index.

Don’t forget there is also a talk by Cheri Hudson Passey, just before Steve’s talk on Saturday at 9:30 AM, entitled If I Knew You Were Coming I’d have Baked a Cake—1950 Census Preparation.  And Ancestry will give a talk on its ongoing work to index the 1950 census.  That talk will be Friday morning at 9:30.
