W. Samuel Williams, MDiv, is a professional genealogist with a focus on Central Virginia, African American, and Greek American research. His degrees are in International Affairs, Spanish, and Orthodox theology. Sam is the owner of The Orthodox Genealogist, LLC, which he started in Norfolk, Virginia, and is now based in Bound Brook, New Jersey.

Religious freedom in Virginia created diversity and records. Discover denominational “genealogy” in Virginia and how to find ancestors in their records. We will investigate historic religious communities in Virginia, consider creative ways to find where our ancestors worshiped, and learn what types of records exist and where to find them.
