Time Travel with Google Earth

Traveling back in time is every genealogists dream! Get one step closer to achieving time travel using the free Google Earth Pro software. See how old maps, genealogical records, photos, images, and even old home movies and videos come together to create stunning time travel experiences.

Lisa Louise Cooke, author of the book The Genealogist’s Google Toolbox, will be your guide. She makes technology fun and easy to understand. You’ll soon be telling time travel stories that excite even your non-genealogist relatives!

Our first stop on the time travel journey is digging into the historic maps buried in the software. Use the “Historical Imagery Tool” to travel back through recent decades, seeing the evolution of old family neighborhoods. Next, travel through changing U.S. county boundaries further back in time. Our final stop will be creating your own “Family History Tour”. These captivating visual, geographic tours tell detailed stories of your ancestors. Lisa pioneered this technique over a decade ago and developed it into a robust, easy to create presentation. You will “WOW” your kids and grand-kids with this!

All levels of genealogists will enjoy this session. Some tech know-how is needed, but if you’re comfortable downloading a file online, copying and pasting, and understand simple basics of cloud storage, you’ll be ready to enjoy this class.
