NGS is Excited to Welcome Back Thomas W. Jones for NGS 2021 Live!
SESSION: NGS2104-LV-04 DATE & TIME: Wednesday, 19 May 2021 at 3:00 p.m.
Thomas W. Jones, PhD, CG, FASG, FUGA, FNGS
Genealogists increasingly are adding DNA test results to documentary sources to identify their ancestors and establish their relationships. Dozens of those researchers have published their documented conclusions as articles in genealogical journals—venues where solutions to complex genealogical research problems are preserved for future generations of their families and for other researchers. Each of those authors have addressed issues of living people’s privacy and issues of providing enough information for others to verify.
Drawing from those articles, this session describes and shows how authors present DNA test results, how they weave them into genealogical conclusions, and how they document DNA-related sources. It also discusses ways that genealogical articles including DNA test results differ from articles that do not include any DNA data. The discussion includes suggestions for handling test results from unresponsive test takers.
Attendees will learn how to structure and document articles, blog postings, and other genealogical writing that incorporates DNA test results. They also will see and learn how to organize and present their own DNA test results along documentary sources.
BIO: Tom, an award-winning genealogical author and researcher, is a popular speaker at conferences, institutes, and seminars. He wrote Mastering Genealogical Proof and Mastering Genealogical Documentation.
