Ryan Berry is a career prosecutor with nearly 20 years of experience handling criminal cases in
Mississippi, ranging from grand larceny to murder. He is a former Chair of the Prosecutors’
Section of the Mississippi Bar and has served as an instructor for various law enforcement
training programs, including the Mississippi Law Enforcement Officers’ Training Academy. He
is also an amateur genealogist.
Ryan received the Mississippi Prosecutors Association’s Trial of the Year Award for his work on
State v. Skaggs. Daniel Ray Skaggs was a serial rapist whose crimes spanned multiple
southeastern states from the 1970s through the 1990s. With the assistance of Bode Technology,
Skaggs was identified and convicted in Mississippi in 2023 of rape and kidnapping for crimes
committed in 1990. Ryan’s work on the Mississippi case also helped identify Skaggs as the
perpetrator of a Tennessee rape committed just 30 days after the Mississippi offense.
Ryan has presented the Skaggs case at the 34th International Symposium on Human
Identification in Denver, the Mississippi Division of the International Association for
Identification in Jackson, Mississippi, and Bode’s 2024 Annual Conference in Atlanta. The case
was also featured on Bloodline Detectives with Nancy Grace.
